Civic Engagement
Through outreach, community organizing, and advocacy, ALA’s Civic Engagement Program builds power with and for disadvantaged communities.
-

Community Organizing
ALA conducts outreach to listen and understand the priorities of underserved communities. We provide information and tools to increase participation in democratic processes, from City Council meetings, to the dicennial census, to political elections for those eligible – and so much more.
-

Empowering Voters
ALA educates eligible voters, such as youth and new citizens, about important dates and processes related to upcoming elections. Our work includes helping voters register, getting out the vote, and monitoring polls to protect voting rights.
-

Advocacy
ALA engages in advocacy to address key issues impacting Silicon Valley’s most vulnerable. Examples include anti-Asian hate, police canine attacks, the use of tasers and military chemical weapons in jails, access to public benefits for immigrant families, gerrymandering, and unconstitutional at-large voting schemes.
Alongside residents, ALA takes action through litigation, public testimony, and leveraging media, just to name a few.
