Key dates and resources for the November 5, 2024 Presidential Election
Any time, but preferably by Oct 21, 2024:
- Check the status of your voter registration. (https://voterstatus.sos.ca.gov)
- If you live in Santa Clara County and you have to update your voter registration records (e.g. you moved, changed your name, want to change language preference, etc.), please visit https://vote.santaclaracounty.gov/register-vote/update-my-voter-registration.
Oct 7, 2024:
Registrar of Voters Office starts to send Vote-By-Mail ballots to active registered voters.
First day to vote in person at the Registrar of Voters Office
Oct 8, 2024: Official drop boxes are available for the return of Vote-By-Mail ballots.
Oct 21, 2024: Last day to register to vote (“traditional” voter registration)
- Submit online voter registration form (https://registertovote.ca.gov) by this date, OR
- Paper registration form must be postmarked by this date.
Oct 22, 2024: Conditional Voter Registration (CVR) begins at Registrar of Voters Office
Oct 26, 2024: Some vote centers (the “11-day vote centers”) are open.
Nov 2, 2024: All vote centers are open.
Nov 5, 2024: Election Day. Polls open at 7am and close at 8pm.
Nov 12, 2024: Vote By Mail ballots that were postmarked on or before November 5, 2024 must be received by the Office of the Registrar of Voters by this day in order to be counted.

Volunteer opportunities: poll monitoring, phone bank, canvassing
ALA is organizing a non-partisan poll monitoring project throughout Santa Clara County. This project aims to protect our local voters and to ensure that the vote centers are in compliance with local, state and federal laws regarding voter protection. ALA is organizing a series of phone banks to Get Out The Vote. We check whether voters have received their Vote-By-Mail ballots, encourage them to vote, and assist with voter questions. Please click here for more information and to sign up.
ALA is going to conduct door-to-door canvassing in the Little Saigon neighborhood on Saturday, October 19, 2024 to get as many Santa Clara County residents possible registered to vote and to assist in voter-related questions. Please click here for more information and to sign up .
