ALA continues its partnership with the Coalition Against Payday Predators (CAPP) in the fight against predatory payday loans. The Morgan Hill City Council took the first step toward strong regulation of payday lenders when the Council unanimously voted to instruct staff to draft an ordinance which would ban new payday lenders in the city, as well as prohibiting the two existing payday lenders from expanding or relocating. Morgan Hill joins a growing list of cities in Santa Clara County (as well as the County itself)—including San Jose, Gilroy, Sunnyvale, and Los Altos—that are taking action to protect their residents against these dangerous, toxic loans and the debt trap they create.
